- Anterolateral Distal Tibia Plate
DetailsThe choice of whether to use a locking implant is determined by the expected healing time, the surgical approach, and the need for additional compression at the articular surface at the time of reduction. In general, locking implants are unnecessary if plates are placed anterolaterally and medially. Fracture comminution may indicate the need for such supplementary plate fixation. However, if the associated soft-tissue envelope contraindicates the use of supplementary plate fixation, use of an angular stable (locking) implant may help prevent late deformity and should be considered.
